About PASR
The Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR) was founded in 1937 and is the largest group of its kind in Pennsylvania, and third largest school retiree organization in the nation. Strictly a volunteer membership organization, PASR consists of, is governed by, and works exclusively to promote the interests and serve the needs of ALL persons who retired from the public schools of Pennsylvania.
This organization helped to establish the National Retired Teachers' Association in 1947. The AARP, the American Association of Retired Peoples, which is the nation's largest senior organization, was also established with the help of PASR in 1958. Our chapter received its charter on October 13, 1964.
Local members are not required to pay state dues; however only state members can take advantage of the many benefits, including special discounts. While at the local chapter level, you receive a personal approach to PASR, when joining the state association you benefit in a much broader sense – from the sharing of information via our quarterly newsletters—to money-saving endorsed services and benefits. In addition, your membership gives our association “strength in numbers” when we fight for important issues with the legislature that affect our members.
Most of our members worked at these school districts and BC3, all in Butler County: Butler Area, Butler County Community College, Karns City, Mars, Moniteau, Seneca Valley, Slippery Rock, South Butler. Associate members can be spouses of members.
Anyone can join as an active member who paid into PSERS while working for some school entity. We have members who live in Butler County but worked elsewhere. Additionally, active school employees over age 50, spouses of active members, retirees from non-public schools and those interested in the work of PASR are eligible to join as an associate member.
The annual cost of membership is $60 paid yearly, or you may purchase a lifetime membership for $700, which can be paid in two installments of $350 if you wish. Local dues is $10 yearly; $150 lifetime.
